Imjingak Park

Not far from the Demarcation Line (DML) and the third tunnel of aggression, you’ll find Imjingak Park. This park was initially built as a place to console families split apart by the Korean War and the resulting Demilitarized Zone who cannot return to their hometowns or visit their friends or families.

The park is filled with statues, monuments, observation decks, a pond, altars, bells, bridges, bunkers, and exhibitions. It even has a small amusement park.

The Bridge of Freedom

Next is the Bridge of Freedom, an iconic symbol of the cease-fire and pause of the Korean confrontation. The bridge was originally built as one of two railway bridges, with this one heading South across the Imjin River.

During the war, the bridge was destroyed, but after the armistice was signed, it was quickly rebuilt with wood to exchange prisoners of war (POW). Roughly 12 thousand POWs used this bridge to return home to South Korea.

The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel

Next, we have a tour of the DMZ’s 3rd tunnel, one of this excursion’s two main highlights.

North Korea built the tunnel in an attempt to invade South Korea by stealth. However, it was discovered in 1978 before the North could use it.

During this part of the tour, you will be invited to enter the tunnel known as the third tunnel of aggression and walk in the footsteps of North Korean soldiers. The tunnel’s entrance is steep, while the lower tunnel is narrow (2 meters wide), closed (2 meters high) and long (1,635 meters).

Those who struggle with steep inclines or enclosed spaces are more than welcome to explore an exhibition near the tunnel entrance while you wait for the rest of the group to return.

Dora Observatory

At Dora Observatory, you will get the best views across the border. It is also a favorite amongst guests due to its proximity to North Korea and unobstructed views.

The observatory features several high-powered binoculars on the 3rd floor-open roof. The roof provides clear views of Several sites, including a North Korean village, the North’s ninth-largest city, some statues, and the Kaesong Industrial Complex.

The observatory was rebuilt to provide a better viewing angle and re-opened at the end of 2018.

Gamaksan Chulleong Bridge

The Gamaksan Red Suspension Bridge stretches 220 meters long and is 1.5 meters wide, providing ample space for up to 900 adults to explore.
